Mary Sarg Murphy (1911-1986)

Daughter of famed puppeteer, artist and illustrator, Tony Sarg, Mary Sarg Murphy was active in New Hope, PA and Nantucket. She studied portraiture in London, furthering her studies at the Sorbonne, Paris, the Art Students League, New York, the Phoenix Art Institute, and the New York School of Applied Design for Women.

The artist developed a many faceted talent. Like her father, she produced fabrics, wallpapers, children's clothing, and table linens. She became well known in the 1930's for her magazine illustrations and children's book designs, and later gained recognition for her portraits.
