British Sailor’s Woolwork of an Unidentified Warship Approaching a French Fort, circa 1850s. As the British ship nears the fort, two figures, one with a dog, can be seen at the shoreline, glass beads are used to represent the ship’s guns. The French flag, the sun, and minaret suggest a North African locale, possibly Algeria in a period maple frame with gilt & beaded slip.
