Oil on Canvas “Portrait of Captain Richard Gibbs of the Ship Nantucket”, depicting Gibbs (b. March 2, 1811-November 16, 1880) sitting in a chair before a window with a view of a two-masted American sailing vessel above his left shoulder, and holding a book in his right hand, on original stretcher and in a molded lemon-gilt gesso frame. This painting sold at Skinner Auction on August 15, 2004 and was identified as Captain Gibbs from the institution that consigned the artwork. Artwork lined and 10% in-paint to surrounding areas only
