Chinese Export Camphorwood Compendium, 19th Century, rectangular red painted coffret with mitered sloping top centered by an ebonized bas relief of a villa and opening to disclose a mirror above a lidded compartmentalized lift-out tray which when removed facilitates access to a fold-out writing surface and storage for writing materials. The back and divided side panels applied with ebonized bas relief plaques, brass bail carrying handles; small losses and wear to painted surface commensurate with age and use.
