Carved and Polychrome Wood Carousel Pig, Gustave Bayol Carousel Company (active 1887-circa 1914), Angers, France, the handsome swine is modeled running at a swift pace, his tongue lolling to the side, wearing a brown saddle cloth with scalloped edges and bow knotted blue ribbons around his tail and neck, the latter inscribed “Le Toine,” an affectionate nick name of St. Antoine, a popular saint whose companion is a pig. Mounted to a rectangular base on four wheels.
