Cull was raised in rural Kentucky and is know for rural landscape, genre, figure and mural painting. He painted in a modernist folk art style which combines realism, abstraction and impressionism. His works included rolling hills, horse ranches but also of local people including children that were in his area. He exhibited one man shows in Louisville and also did a large mural for the Goshen Post Office.
