Paul Desmond Brown was an American illustrator of equestrian subjects, known for his paintings, drawings, and sketches of horses and equestrian sports. He was never formally trained as an artist but became a major influence on the image of urban males in twentieth-century America through his illustrations for Brooks Brothers catalogs, which included over one thousand drawings. Brown’s art is characterized by a calculated simplicity and authority, with hard-edged lines playing a primary role in his compositions.
