Rare China Trade Carved, Painted and Parcel-Gilt American Eagle Plaque, 19th Century, the relief-carved eagle with old paint and gilding depicted astride a stars and stripes shield, olive branch and clutch of arrows in its talons, furled flags in the background, elaborate carved oval surround of a berried foliate border interspersed with Chinese ‘good fortune’ motifs and alternating with concentric rows of rope-twist patterns.
