In 1953 Danny Ho and Muey Fong established Tropi-cal, taking the American market by storm with the introduction of unique and non-traditional rattan and wicker furniture. Combining rattan with metal wood and plastic to create designs that ranged from clean and structured to more whimsical, Danny Ho’s designs were celebrated for being “simple, light-scaled, and open in feeling.” One of his designs currently resides in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC.
