Sailor’s Woolwork With Incorporated Tintype, circa 1870, no doubt intended as a memento to be presented to the mother or sweetheart of the creator, the embroidered panel centers the portrait of an unidentified Irish sailor smiling forth from a lozenge shaped window, flanked by flags of nations and surmounted by a frigate sailing a calm, deep blue sea, all set within a large curtained proscenium, with gilt slip in a bird’s eye maple frame.
