George Frank Higgins (American b. 1850) Oil on Canvas “Polpis Harbor,” signed lower right.
14 in. x 10 in.
Little is know about George Frank Higgins, but his work suggests an accomplished artist. Higgins exhibited at the Boston Art Club during the years 1873 to 1891. He also exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum and Leonard’s Auction Rooms.
In a review of Higgin’s work that appeared in the “Boston Evening Transcript” of March 18, 1874, the author noted that Higgin’s work did not embrace the “sensational,” but would hold its interest and “improve by age as choice scenes in nature do to the lover of her occult mysteries.”
He is known to have painted in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, as did many New England artists of his day.
