John Osborne (b. 1951) Oil on Masonite
“From Warren’s Landing” signed lower left JC Osborne, in gold leaf frame
12 in. x 20 in.
Born on July 9, 1951, in Wyckoff, New Jersey, John Osborne started painting at the age of 20. Osborne is both a teacher and painter of the American landscape “en plein aire.” Placing an emphasis on how objects in nature are seen in various degrees of sunlight, Osborne works with oil paint to achieve light and shadow effects as they are seen in New Jersey, New England, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, and in Europe. His paintings are intended to convey a direct study of the natural environment in all its mysterious, atmospheric moods.
Osborne’s awards include include Best in Show at the Hudson Valley Art Association and a Gold Medal of Honor, along with Best of Light and Atmospheric Effects’ awards. Osborne was the recipient of the Hudson Valley Art Association’s highest honor, Artist in Special Tribute. The Bergen Museum of Art and Science honored Osborne as an inaugural inductee of the Mastadon Artists Society.
His paintings have been exhibited at the American Embassies in Moscow, Africa, Indonesia and South America, and locally at the Bergen Museum of Art and Science.
