Important Chinese Export Cumshing Silver Mechanical Cylinder Desk, circa 1800, the silver hardware hallmarked CS (Cumshing active 1780s – 1820s). The desk is of diminutive size in the Federal style, probably for the American market. Constructed in oriental woods, the cylinder retracts when one pulls on the writing surface rings, exposing a tilting writing surface, hinged central door flanked by 2 pigeon holes and 7 stepdown drawers with silver knobs, above a single drawer over 2 small drawers flanking a kneehole on square legs. Chinese character paint marks on the interior back plate.
