German “Jewelled” Silver Commemorative Dish, last half of the 19th Century, in remembrance of Saxon monarchs Augustus III and Maria Josepha, mark of Richard Garten, Dresden, active 1860-1905, of oval form with ruffled wavy rim, richly embossed and chased with conjoined portrait roundels, the cavetto deeply embossed and finely chased with conjoined medallion portraits of Augustus III and Maria Josepha of Saxony, identified by encircling Latin inscriptions, with dates of birth in flanking spandrels, and coronation date of 17 Januari 1734 surmounting; crown, crossed swords, robust fruits, and applied green stone and carnelian “jewels” add further embellishment. Additional note: very likely produced in commemoration to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the coronation of the Saxon monarchs.
