Rare Nantucket Bodkin Caddy, circa 1850, fashioned of antique whale ivory and rosewood, four carved scrimshaw discs each with 6 holes and receiving drop final cups; turned stand with 2 spool holding arms, and 2 utensil holders all with baleen and wood spacers, rosewood turned base; with Barbara Johnson Delector in Balaenis #394 paper label; NOTE: Bodkins not included, only used for representational purposes. This caddy sold Sotheby’s September 25, 1982 The Barbara Johnson Whaling Collection: Part II, lot #526. There is a similar piece in the New Bedford Whaling Museum, identified as a cigar holder.
