Three Galen Carpenter (American 1946-2017) Artisanal Carved Wooden Vases, each carved from various exotic woods; two vases with bone aperture, all signed on the underside and numbered 01-36, 01-37 and 01-43. Galen Carpenter grew up in a small town in Kansas where he worked as a printer, contractor, and furniture restorer. Working in the print shop taught him how to use color, and he often adds rich turquoise, coral, or ebony to his turned wooden pieces. He never took any formal art lessons, describing himself as “right off the turnip truck,” and his turned, segmented vessels often incorporate unconventional materials and patterns.
