Fine “Trinity House” Burl Walnut and Marquetry Work Box, circa 1870, oblong with bevel-edged hinged top featuring a large panel depicting a clipper ship under full sail passing a gaff-rigged sloop; front and side panes depict a variety of ships with view of harbor town in the distance; original fitted interior with lift-out tray and pin cushion; largest interior lid with crossed flags of Britain and Ireland; Note: The corporation of Trinity House is the official authority for lighthouses in Great Britain. While on station, keepers of lighthouses and lightships made boxes with fancy wood inlays, often featuring ships and nautical scenes.
