British Woolie “Embroidered Portrait of the Frigate H.M.S. Shannon”, circa 1860, wool and canvas, executed entirely in chain stitch, a time-and-thread-consuming embroidery technique not often found in woolies; she was a wood steam frigate with 51 guns launched Nov 1855, commissioned Sept. 13, 1856, first voyage March 17, 1857 with troops to reinforce the planned attack on Canton, in maple frame with silver gilt liner
