Fine Trinity House Marquetry Money Bank Box, 19th Century, the front and sides inlaid with scenes of various French and British ships sailing along a coastline past a fortress, windmill, church and houses. Executed in stained and natural woods and enhanced with ink and color; the hinged bevelled top centered by a slot outlined with stringing and circumscribed in an oval with the name Elizabeth Smith in wax-filled engraved lettering. Note: The corporation of Trinity House is the official authority for lighthouses in Great Britain. While on station, keepers of lighthouses and lightships made boxes with fancy wood inlays, often featuring ships and nautical scenes. The keepers sold these boxes directly to captains of sailing vessels using Trinity House services. Source: Gerald Matthias
