Civil War Era Diaries of John Haynes Heiner of Kittanning, Pennsylvania. During the Civil War, the young Heiner served in Company A, 8th Regiment as a Private in the Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps (PRVE). Pocket diaries of 1863 and 1864 detail his time stationed in Alexandria, as a guard in Washington City, and combatant in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. Includes writings in camp activities, movements and marches, and bloody encounters and battles with the rebels. The lot of 8 pocket diaries (1863, 1864, 1871, 1872, 1878, 1891, 1923, 1929) includes several from Heiner’s subsequent years in which the reader may observe the character of the man as he matures and ages, enjoying family life, prosperity, and peace.
