Gunnel SS-253 Submarine Kill Flag, circa 1945, all wool bunting construction, single sided, multi-piece construction, made at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard flag loft, showing insignia and kill records of the submarine during the war. The U.S.S. Gunnel was commissioned in 1942 and conducted eight war patrols in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.
