Note: Smith studied at the Cincinnati Art School, Ohio Mechanics’ Institute and Academie Julian in Paris under Bouguereau, Ferrier and Constant. After returning from Europe he was active for seventeen years as a portraitist in Washington, D.C. where he also painted marine scenes.
