A painter, educator and screen printer who preferred acrylics for his paintings, Philip Hicken was a teacher at the following institutions: Cummington School, 1940; Harvard University Graduate School of Design, 1950-53; Boston University, 1956-57; and from 1957, Chairman if the Fine Arts Department at the Boston Art Institute. He lived at Watertown, Massachusetts.
He was a member of the National Serigraph Society; American Artists Congress; Art Union of Western MA; Boston Society Watercolor Painters; Boston Printmakers; Cambridge Art Association; Royal Society Art; and Nantucket Art Association.
