Michael Keane (American 1948-2015)

Keane began drawing at the age of four, and at the age of eight he embarked on an eight-year apprenticeship with landscape painter Edward Harrigan, after which he served a four year apprenticeship with noted marine artist Marshall W. Joyce. Keane then taught portraiture and figure painting with Clemente Micarelli in the latter’s studio.  He majored in Visual Design at University of Massachusetts, and then taught painting for 17 years.

Keane’s artwork has gained national attention and has won numerous awards including the R.J. Schaefer Award of Excellence at the Mystic Seaport International Juried Show.  His work is in numerous private and corporate collections and has been featured in publications including Yachting, Motor boating and Sailing, US Art, Sea Classics, and Cape Cod Life.
